Stronger, Happier, Healthier: The Art of Self-Care Rtn. Vasumathi Marimuthu

“It’s not just who you are underneath, but what you do that defines you; you are never wrong to do the right thing.”
These are two quotes that I deeply connect with. In the fast pace of life, self-care is often overlooked. Many believe that prioritizing ourselves is selfish, but in reality, it is essential. Taking time for oneself, whether through quiet reflection, a morning walk, listening to a favourite musician or any meaningful hobby, allows the mind and body to relax and recharge.
“Me time” is not an indulgence, it is a necessity.
While caring for others is admirable, it is equally important to recognize the strength of those around us. Instead of carrying burdens alone, sharing struggles and drawing strength from loved ones can be deeply healing.
True strength lies in both giving and receiving.
In a world consumed by cell phone screens showing unknown people endlessly confuse us regarding what is right and wrong about every aspect of our lives, real-life connections have never been more important. I strongly believe building friendships through Rotary provides a strong support system. Meaningful social interactions reduce stress, enhance mental well-being and create a sense of belonging. Giving back to the community, engaging in service and forming bonds with like-minded individuals by being there for each other, brings immense joy and purpose.
Ignoring health concerns is another mistake. Brushing aside symptoms and hoping they disappear can lead to bigger issues. Checking, testing and seeking treatment early is always better than living in uncertainty. Health is the foundation of everything and without it, even the strongest individuals fall. Most importantly, better late than never, it is extremely important to focus on staying active. Fitness is not about appearance but about honouring and strengthening the body. A simple walk, yoga or any form of activity enhances both physical and mental health.
Living, Not Just Existing
Life is not just about going through the motions – it’s about thriving. Taking care of ourselves, nurturing real friendships, and prioritizing health are not just choices; they are necessities.
To my dear Rotary friends, thank you for being a part of this journey, for the laughter, the camaraderie, and the countless memories. Because of you, I don’t just live – I thrive.
